It's early July and the NBA draft just concluded last week. You've got 21 basketball clients at your company, ABC AGENTS INC. Eight of them have already signed contracts for next season and you are close to finishing negotiations on contracts for 3 others. - You try to contact your client, John Smith, at 1 of the 4 numbers they've given you. They are actually on vacation, at a camp, or they just don't answer the phone. Most of the time you have to leave a message.
- He calls back the next day. He'll send you a tape but he will have to get one from his college coach (who is out recruiting) or his most recent team (they're either on vacation or away scouting )
- Two weeks later, you get John Smith's cassette but you've received requests from 2 more "contacts" this week.
- You quickly (in 4-6 hours) try to make 2 more copies before getting them to the post office to be mailed but you need two blank video tapes, access to 2 vcrs, etc. You decide that you need to mail the first tape since it's already been at least 2 weeks your contact has waited.
- You calculate how long it will take while waiting in that long line at the Post Office. If you're mailing them to someone in the United States, it will take 2-3 days for the tape to arrive; total time to deliver a video in USA after initial phone call: 3 weeks... If you're trying to send a video anywhere on the other side of the Atlantic, good luck. It will take a minimum of 5 business days; total time to deliver a video outside of USA after initial phone call: 4 weeks...
- You're not finished. With tapes arriving on that teams desk everyday, don't expect someone to call to let you know that you're video has arrived. It's been 3-4 weeks since that contact requested the video. You must follow up with a phone call at which time you find out that your contact is out of the office until next week...or worse, that the team has already found a player.
