There's a big game against your rival, the SuperDuper Bears, next weekend. You've got 5 days to prepare. Here's the scene.

The Today Way

  • Monday after practice
You gather all the tapes and DVD's from your last 7 games plus the first game you played against the Bears. You decide to make a highlight film of the offensive plays from tapes 1, 3, 4, and 7...and defensive plays from games 2, 5, & 6... You'll figure out which quarters in each game tomorrow. You discover that you mailed game 7 to another coach last week. You call him to have it mailed back ASAP. You finish around 10PM...
  • Tuesday 6AM until 10AM
You get an early start in the morning because you'd like to see your family today. You get started on the offensive editing by rewinding all of the tapes because you were too tired late last night to do something that's such a nuisance. If you're a little lucky, you have everything on DVD. You start the process of searching your tapes or DVD's by fast forwarding or rewinding to find the plays you want to clip. You write down the reference points so you can come back later and put all of the highlights together on one tape or DVD.
  • Tuesday after practice 8PM until 1AM
After practice, its getting late and you need to have everything together by Thursday morning for the video session and ready Thursday evening for practice. You go through the remaining tapes to prepare the defensive highlights, making reference points, rewinding, etc. You arrive home to see your family before bed but at least you finished referencing the video.
  • Wednesday morning 8AM
After a quick family breakfast, you rush to your video editing nest to finish the tapes. You must now put everything together from the reference points you made. You find out that you're out of blank tapes but that's no big deal because the store is right around the corner. They'll be open in an hour. You finally get started. You finish offensive clips that morning and the defensive clips early that afternoon before practice. The mailman finally arrives with the game 7 tape about an hour before practice starts.
  • Wednesday evening after practice
You make sure everything is ready for tomorrow as you pull plays from that game 7 tape. You get to bed by 12:30AM...the family is asleep.
  • Thursday meeting
We're ready to get started but of course you didn't label your videos. You just figured you leave them on the VCR and they'd be there the next day...the tapes are still there, you just didn't count on the cleaning crew coming in to dust this morning before your meeting. After so looking at 2 different tapes, you get the right one into the VCR. At the end of the meeting 3 of your players ask for copies to take home and study. You finish your day by making copies using the new tapes you purchased Wednesday.
  • Friday

YOU CONCENTRATE ON THE GAME...THE SCOUTING REPORT IS FINALLY DONE

SAME SCENARIO - USING THE ARCHIVATEAM WAY

  • Monday
You sign on to the ArchivaSports website. You locate your last 7 games in the data base by typing "Lions", "Nighthawks", or whatever your team name may be. Because you e-mailed game 7 to a fellow coach last week, there is no need to have him send it back. The game is always available online. You find your reference points by using the thumbnail photos and time stamps. Now all you have left to do is create the clips. You decide to join the family for dinner at your favorite restaurant.
  • Tuesday 10AM
With the reference points already visible on the screen, you make the highlight clips by starting the game and pressing "in and out" at the beginning and end of each highlight. You name each clip as you make it.
  • Tuesday 11:30AM
You go home for a quick lunch and a haircut before returning to finish the video clips. While waiting for your haircut, you watch the first half of game 7 on your IPOD which you downloaded from the web.
  • Tuesday 1:30PM
You finish editing the video. You save everything online under the name "Super Duper Bears Scouting Report". You make sure that your comments attached to each.

Video clip are motivational and to the point. You decide to e-mail the highlight clips to 3 of your starters who seemed to be half asleep in previous games and would definitely benefit from an early glimpse of their mistakes before the team meeting Thursday.
